Borders Books Tries to Recall 'Unfit for Command'
Useless Knowledge ^

Posted on 08/20/2004 12:53:02 PM PDT by GulliverSwift

Well, it’s happened, folks. As I predicted in my August 11, 2004 article “John Kerry’s Media”, the Kerry campaign is strong-arming booksellers into banning “Unfit For Command”. Today’s Drudge Report has it as the headline story. Kerry is afraid…very afraid of the truth. Myriad books, filled with patently false statements, have been written about President Bush and his administration. These books, however, have been praised and pushed by our “mainstream press” and on-air media Kerry surrogates. It was reported, yesterday (by a caller to Sean Hannity’s radio show that Borders will no longer carry the book and is “attempting to recall the books already sold”. If you have read George Orwell’s “1984”, this is precisely what Big Brother affected. Book burnings were a regular course of action.

How can they "recall" a book already sold? Go to the buyers home and take it from them?

How does Borders recall a book? Do I have to return it under penalty of something? They can refuse to sell it I suppose which is dumb business policy as someone else will make the profit.

I think people are getting rather hysterical over this. Let's check our facts first before we explode on people.

Drudge has a headline now and there's a thread on top of this one that the publisher has another 500,000 books in print.

The avalanche against Kerry has started now and can't be stopped.

Kerry had every opportunity to tell us what the "lies" were by the Swift Boat vets and he didn't. Because he can't. He has changed his stories 4-5 times.

A few of the vets did change their stories over the years. They were told things by Kerry and others that they believed. But when they started researching O'Neill's charges, they came to realize they had been wrong to support KErry for all these years.

I think that means they would send them back to the publisher.

Have their retail outlets send the unsold copies back to the distributor, who then sends it back to the publisher, who then refunds Borders.

I went into a Borders a couple of weeks ago. Probably not my first venture into that chain, but if I had been in one before it was only once or twice. I couldn't believe the section where all the political books were. All the anti Bush/Republican books on the shelf were not placed with the binding facing outward but the covers were facing outward. And it wasn't like someone had picked up that particular book and didn't put it back right--all the books behind it were facing cover outwards as well. I walked out.

What I've been hearing is that they are saying the book is on backorder and will not be in for 5 to 7 weeks. Hmmm..wanna bet that gets extended until after the election. They want your money. They just don't want you to get the book until after the election.

This has been discussed on here ad infinitum today and has not been verified. Borders.com still lists the book for sale (many of them, in fact) and there are plenty of instances today where people have posted seeing books in Borders stores.

You can't, also, "recall books already sold."

That's the next logical step. Here's what a Kerry spokesman said yesterday:

"No publisher should want to be selling books with proven falsehoods in them, especially falsehoods that are meant to smear the military service of an American veteran," said Kerry campaign spokesman Chad Clanton. "If I were them, I'd be ducking under my desk wondering what to do. This is a serious problem."

Scary, scary stuff. I guess Mr. Clanton would have government goons going through the bookstores, making sure all the books contain the truth. Their truth, at any rate.

This idiotic ploy by sKerry to have "Unfit" recalled is going to backfire bigtime! While libs are libs are libs...the one thing they really are afraid of is losing freedom of speech. They whine about it constantly. Kerry's ban "that bad book about me" screams of freedom of speech infringement against honorable Vietnam Vets who are also American citizens! They cannot spin past this one!

Democrats are just pissed their 50 anti-Bush books are getting overshadowed by this 1 anti-Kerry book.

Why are they recalling a best-selling book? So will Amazon also not sell it?

I just called the Border's customer service number and was assured that they are not pulling the book. The young man on the line said that some stores were out of copies because it has been such a hot seller and that they had more on order from the publisher. He said it is there number one non-fiction seller right now and they are having problems getting enough copies.

Just called the Borders that I had went into a couple of weeks ago. They said they are all sold out and should be getting a shipment in a couple of weeks. I'm going to call the one further down south and see what they say.

"He said it is there number one non-fiction seller right now and they are having problems getting enough copies."

That should have been "their" not "there".
